A Friendly Reminder: Cell Phones Stay Off and Away During the School Day

Posted Date: 07/31/26 (10:00 AM)

Dear MWISD Parents and Guardians,

As we get ready for another great school year, we'd like to share a friendly reminder about Mineral Wells ISD's cell phone and personal electronic device expectations.

To help create the best possible learning environment, students are expected to keep cell phones and other personal electronic devices turned off and put away throughout the instructional day, in accordance with Texas House Bill 1481.

📵 Off and Away for the Day

From the time students enter their first class until they leave their final class, personal electronic devices should remain powered off and stored in a backpack or bag.
This includes:
  • Cell phones
  • Smartwatches
  • Tablets
  • Other personal electronic devices
By keeping devices off and away, we can reduce distractions, encourage student engagement, and help every classroom remain focused on learning.

Exceptions

Limited exceptions may apply for students who:
  • Have an IEP or Section 504 Plan that requires device access
  • Have a documented medical need
  • Receive administrative approval for safety or legal reasons
  • Are using a school-issued device for instructional purposes

Working Together

We know cell phones are an important part of everyday life, and we appreciate your partnership in helping students understand these expectations before the first day of school. A quick conversation at home can make a big difference in helping students start the year successfully.
Together, we can create a safe, respectful, and distraction-free learning environment where every student has the opportunity to succeed.
Thank you for your continued support of Mineral Wells ISD. We look forward to welcoming our students back on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 for an amazing school year!

Warm regards,

Mineral Wells ISD
