Important Child Nutrition Update: Temporary Removal of Lettuce from School Menus
Out of an abundance of caution, the Mineral Wells ISD Child Nutrition Department will be removing all lettuce from our school menus, effective immediately, to help protect our students and staff during the current multistate outbreak of cyclosporiasis that has been linked to shredded iceberg lettuce.
Cyclosporiasis is an intestinal illness caused by the parasite Cyclospora, which can lead to severe gastrointestinal symptoms. Although the investigation is still ongoing, the health and safety of our students and staff remain our highest priority.
As a precaution, lettuce will remain off our menus until health officials determine the outbreak is no longer a concern. Once it is considered safe, we will resume serving lettuce on our menus.
The well-being of our students and staff is at the heart of every decision we make, and we believe this temporary step is the best way to help protect our school community while the investigation continues. We appreciate your understanding, patience, and support as we take these proactive measures.
