1:1 Student device program
Mineral Wells Independent School District has rolled out the 1:1 Chromebook initiative and is in it's second year of being fully implemented. Students in Junior High and High School have been assigned a Chromebook laptop to use at school and at home. The purpose of this educational initiative is to provide access to resources and tools to meet the needs of 21st century students, engage students, and provide the opportunity to do work that was previously not possible without greater access to a computing device.
This program began in January 2018 with 8th graders.
The roll-out expanded in the 2018-19 school year to include all students grades 7th - 12th.
Before receiving a Chromebook, parents and students must sign the MWISD device agreement form and submit the device fee payment. The device agreement form will be automatically included in the Skyward online registration forms.
The device fee is $25.00 per year. The device fee covers accidental damage, lost or stolen devices, and if the device is functioning properly. Please access the link above for more specifications on the coverage. Payment can be made in person at your child's campus at the time of pick-up.
At the beginning of each school year, please be looking for more information from your campus on dates and times for Chromebook distribution. Chromebook distribution will more than likely be a few days before the first day of school.
Use of Personal Devices instead of a MWISD Chromebook:
We encourage students to use a district issued Chromebook as this will ensure that the student is able to easily do what they need to for school work and enables MWISD to fully support their device and any issues the student has with using it. If a student uses their own laptop, the student needs to use the Chrome web browser for best compatibility and the ability to use extensions that might be needed for the class. MWISD does not guarantee that a personal device will be able to perform all needed functions. Mobile devices, such as iPads, will likely have issues doing some tasks for class and are not recommended. MWISD is not able to support personal devices beyond making sure they can connect to WIFI. MWISD is not responsible for any damage to personal devices.

Internet access for students:
Are you a business or individual interested in helping to sponsor internet hot spots for check out from the school library? See this flyer for information about how MWISD plans to help students without internet access at home to be able to check out internet hot spots for a few days at a time from the school library.
