This past school year Lamar Elementary partnered with the Mineral Wells Art Association to bring a standards-based interactive art program called “Meet the Masters”.
The Mineral Wells Art Association graciously covered the cost of the art kits so that all students could create their own artwork following elements of famous artists. They not only provided the necessary supplies, but also offered all the instruction through community volunteers.
To kick-off the beginning of the art program, Ms. Shirl Hawes of the MW Art Association presented the famous artist, Vincent Van Gogh in student-friendly terms. Students “painted” their own artwork using imaginary brushes and palettes, while each assembly had a featured student volunteer dressed as Vincent Van Gogh.
Mineral Wells ISD was excited about this partnership with the Mineral Wells Art Association and was proud to invite community artists into our schools that have provided art enrichment to our students.
Fine arts instruction is an important component of a well-rounded education. There is no doubt their gift will boost the Fine Arts program, positively impacting students and their families. On behalf of the MWISD board of trustees, faculty, staff, and our students who are the ultimate beneficiaries of their generosity- we give a heartfelt thanks for the work of the Mineral Wells Art Association in our community.
