Today, they are familiar sight for those on the road; the green and orange logo that welcomes travelers by offering competitive gas prices. But most people would not know that Jim Yates, the founder of EZ Mart sat down with his wife in 1970 and began to draw a store design for their new chain by selecting those color schemes from their daughter’s crayon box. With a vision for serving rural America, Mr. Yates built E-Z Mart Stores Inc. into one of the nation's largest privately held convenience store chains and shaped the industry.
Since 1990, The E-Z MART Jim Yates Foundation has allocated funding for Education Grants to the school systems located in the communities in which E-Z MART operates. The purpose of these grants is to assist the educator in acquiring the tools necessary to instruct and lead our children to higher levels of learning with the most current instructional methods. Last year, E-Z MART contributed over $65,000 to teachers wishing to enhance their classroom experience.
This year, Ana Dowling a pre-k teacher at Lamar Elementary was one of the recipients of an EZ Mart Grant. She received $937 to purchase bilingual books and Spanish language arts game to reinforce learning and enhance instruction in the classroom.
This additional funding will allow Ms. Dowling to continue to focus on her goal of increasing student achievement by providing our youngest learners more instructional resources and materials to support language, literacy, and math development.
The Mineral Wells Board of Trustees honors EZ Mart and the Jim Yates as the January Partner in Education. EZ Mart has continued Mr. Yates’ legacy by making a difference in the lives of our students by providing outstanding academic tools for the classroom. Thank you again for your generous support and by making our community a great place to live.
