Every year students across the state compete at the Texas Thespian Festival in events that span from acting to technical theatre and are scored by theatre professionals. If they have a high enough score, they qualify to advance to Nationals during the month of June, in Lincoln, Nebraska.
This November Mineral Wells High School student Tori Echols, competed in costume design at the festival. She was responsible in creating full color drawings of five costumes that actors would wear in a production, she had to include fabric and trim swatches, through research of the time period that she set the show, and various budgetary requirements.
Tori choose do to the costume design for Mineral Wells High Theatre's upcoming production of The Curious Savage by John Patrick. At the festival, she presented her design in front of a panel of theatre professionals and received a perfect score. The day after her results were announced, Tori and her work were photographed and put into a presentation that was shown in front of 8,500 theatre teachers, students, and professionals. Her score qualified her to compete at the International Thespian Society. The Mineral Wells High School Theatre and Troupe 4607 are ecstatic that the hard work that Tori put in to this department both on stage and off was rewarded.
