Warm winter clothes not only help children get to school safely, but it also helps them stay focused once they’re in their classrooms. Health experts report that even a two degree drop in body temperature results in reduced heart rate, confusion and loss of coordination, making it extremely difficult for children to concentrate and learn. For many a warm coat can help solve this problem. Warm clothes also allow children to play outside, giving them a chance to be active year-round and lead healthy, fulfilling lives.
Travis Elementary students want to help get students the warm items they need to get to school safely. This November students will collect new or gently used coats, sweaters, and jackets for children in our community. Sizes needed are youth size small-XL and all adult sizes. A shopping event for the children to choose a donated coat will be held December 6th from 6-8 pm at Travis Elementary cafeteria.
Travis Elementary appreciates any help from the community. If you need coats picked up or would like to donate money, please call (940) 462-6424. Coats can also be delivered to the school office from 8:00 am-3:00 pm, Monday-Friday. Build On and R+F Prescription for Change Foundation has partnered with Travis Elementary and will match all cash donations received.
