Mineral Wells Junior High
It is the intent of Mineral Wells Jr. High to teach discipline in dressing at school which reflects the beliefs and values of the community. We also strive to provide the guidance necessary so that our students have an appropriate knowledge of grooming to be successful in a variety of situations. We also want our students to dress in a manner that represents the student, the student's family, and Mineral Wells High Junior High in a positive and dignified manner There is a close relationship between high standards of dignity and pride and proper grooming In order to represent yourself, your family, and our school, the following guidelines are required.
Students and parents should keep in mind that the student and their parents share in the responsibility for proper grooming and hygiene of the student. Modesty will be the dominant feature in all clothing. Attire shall be clean and not offensive.
Appropriate behavior, attitude and our community standards take precedence over style.
The District prohibits any picture, emblem, or writing that:
I. Is lewd, offensive, vulgar, obscene or disrupts the educational environment.
2.Depicts satanic and/or cult symbols; advertises or depicts tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, drugs or any other substance prohibited under FNCF (L) of the M.W.I.S.D. Board Policy Manual, or any violent behavior not allowable on campus.
J. Reflect or affiliate an individual or individuals with an organization not recognized through the office, i.e. gangs, cults, etc ... (For example extra long belts, bandanas, sagging pants, towels and tshirts carried rather than worn)
The following guidelines will serve as determining factors for parents and students in choosing clothing appropriate for school:
Revealing, see-through, or skintight clothing is unacceptable. These include, but are not limited to the following: extremely short skirts, halter tops, tank tops or other shirts with deep-cut openings, bare midriffs, low-cut dresses or tops, tube skirts, bicycle pants, pajamas, boxer style shorts, tights over or under otherwise unacceptable clothing, or clothing which reveals undergarments, including baggy pants which are not worn at the traditional waist or baggy pants which show undergarments or bare body parts.
Shorts, dresses, and skirts may be worn if they extend to the top of the knee cap. No extremely tight or thin shorts such as: wind shorts, jogging shorts, or bicycling shorts will be allowed. Stirrup pants or leggings may be worn with a long top that extends to the top of the kneecap. Cut-offs and other clothes with holes, rips, tears, or frays, etc., are unacceptable. Tattoos must be covered up.
Hair and body shall be kept clean and well groomed. In addition, any hair style causing significant disruption to the school process will not be allowed (such as: Mohawk or similar hair cuts, spikes, designs cut in head, and extreme and unnatural hair coloring). No facial hair, except for a neatly trimmed mustache not extending below the corner of the mouth, will be permitted. Sideburns shall not extend below the bottom of the ear. Mutton chop sideburns are considered to be unacceptable facial hair.
Shoes must be worn at all times. Unacceptable footwear includes dangerous, noisy and/or distractive shoes, such as house shoes and extremely high or spike (3 in.) heels.
Sunglasses are not allowed inside the building without a written explanation from' the student's physician.
Caps/hats and other head coverings are not allowed to be worn inside the building or carried to classrooms. Headgear required for classes for religious reasons may be approved by the principal or principal's designee.
School sanctioned uniforms will be approved on a case-by-case basis.
The Principals may designate other modes of dress for special occasions such as Western Day, etc.
Ear piercing is acceptable (no more than 2 pieces of jewelry per ear). No other visible body piercing wil1 be allowed (including plugs). Rings worn in earlobes to create large holes are unacceptable and will not be permitted.
Wallet chains are prohibited. No chains will be allowed on school property (examples: wallet, backpack). Only neck chains considered to be jewelry will be allowed. Dog chains or bicycle chains worn around the neck or wrist will not be allowed.
Overalls and dress straps must be securely attached over the shoulders. Bandanas are prohibited.
[Note: ALL SHORTS, DRESSES AND SKIRTS MAY ONLY BE WORN IN THE ACADEMIC SETTING IF THEY EXTEND TO THE TOP OF THE KNEE CAP.
