MWISD Superintendent
Dr. Gail G. Haterius
Dr. Gail Haterius brings twenty-three years of successful academic and financial accomplishments to public education. She has been successful in leading the improvement of academic ratings in every position and school district that she has served in. As a principal, she worked with her teachers to garner an Exemplary rating for their school. In her latest position as superintendent, she led the district to a Recognized status with 75% of the schools rated as Recognized. In each case, Dr. Haterius counted on the targeted, focused work of talented teachers and administrators to work collaboratively to reach these high standards.
She also has extensive expertise in school finance as she took another district that was on the verge of being totally insolvent and possibly taken over by TEA to financial solvency with a healthy fund balance. School districts are facing enormous challenges both financially and academically. Dr. Haterius has a proven track record of problem solving and systematic planning to address both of these major issues facing school districts at this time. Dr. Haterius has served as a superintendent for six years in two school districts, most recently at Clyde CISD in West Texas.
Dr. Haterius has served at almost every level in PK-12 schools. She taught for seven years, and then served as a librarian, assistant high school principal, elementary principal, assistant superintendent of Mexia ISD, and superintendent of Italy and Clyde school districts. Dr. Haterius has a passion for the education of children and the teachers who teach them and truly considers working in education a mission. Dr. Haterius has been instrumental in moving each district that she has worked in forward academically, financially, and in garnering community support for their schools. At Clyde, the community passed the largest bond in the history of the school district.
Haterius' Bachelor of Education is a double major in Education and Nutrition. Her Master of Science degree in Mid-Management was received from Texas Tech University as was her Doctorate of Educational Leadership.
Dr. Haterius has served on various boards during her career both in the field of education as well as community and church boards. Currently, she serves as president of the Abilene Regional P-16 Council which works with public schools, higher education institutions, and businesses and communities to create a college going culture and student success in Education Service Center, Region 14. She values the work of volunteers and knows first hand how very many positive initiatives exist because of committee community volunteers.
Dr. Haterius and her husband, Craig, have three boys and two daughters-in-law. Their youngest son, Nils, graduated from Texas Tech, in May, 2011. Craig works for First Care as a Provider Relations Consultant. The Hateriuses look forward to joining the Mineral Wells community and being a part of the continuing success story of Mineral Wells Independent School District.
