At the June 6, 2016 board meeting, the Mineral Wells ISD Board of Trustees approved a July 12, 2016 hearing to consider approval of a Maintenance and Operations (M&O) tax rate that is above the maximum rate allowed without voter approval. This M&O rate must be approved by voters before it can be adopted by the school district. The Board adopted an order calling for a Tax Ratification Election (TRE) to be held on Saturday, August 27, 2016.
The passage of the TRE would effectively move 13 cents from the Interest and Sinking Fund (I&S) to our Maintenance and Operations Fund (M&O). This shift would generate approximately $630,000 in additional state funding for the school district with no increase in tax rate for the MWISD taxpayers.
This information has been prepared by Mineral Wells ISD. It is factual and intended to inform MWISD voters about the upcoming election. All eligible registered voters are encouraged to become informed and exercise their right to vote in this important election.
