Work out at the Brain Gym

The School Health Advisory Committee (SHAC) of MWISD would like to offer you a “tool” that you may find beneficial for your students, yourself, and your co-workers to use during stressful periods, especially during TAKS testing time.

This “tool” is called Brain Gym® and it is a form of educational kinesiology. Brain Gym® was developed by educator and reading specialist Paul E. Dennison and his wife and colleague, Gail E. Dennison. It includes activities used to recall the movements naturally done during the first years of life when learning to coordinate the eyes, ears, hands, and whole body. Its purpose is to develop improvement in  the areas of:

 *   Concentration and Focus
 *   Memory
 *   Academics: reading, writing, math, test taking
 *   Physical coordination
 *   Relationships
 *   Self-responsibility
 *   Organization skills
 *   Attitude

More information on Brain Gym® can be found at this website:

(this link will take you away from the MWISD Network. We do not have any control over and are not responsible for any of the content)

You may also go to the official website at

In addition, our own Carla Narcomey is trained in Brain Gym® and she would be happy to answer any questions you might have. Her email is cnarcomey@mwisd.net

mailto:cnarcomey@mwisd.net

The MWISD SHAC would like for teachers and staff to try this “tool” and then give us feedback on what you think.  Let us know if it helps you and  your students. We know testing is difficult for many and TAKS is stressful for everyone. Hopefully Brain Gym® techniques and activities will give each of us a beneficial “tool” to use as we work to educate the children of our community.
