Welcome to Mineral Wells Independent School District

The Mineral Wells Independent School District is committed to excellence. Academic achievement is the top priority for MWISD’s 3,600 plus students. It is truly a place where the interests of the children come first.

Facilities and Staff…..

The children of this historic community attend three elementary schools, one junior high, and one high school (4A). The district has a well-established alternative education center. A total district staff of 560 provides a quality education for students. Five full-time nurses and nine counselors are an important part of this team.

Technology…..

Each of the district’s five schools are equipped with up-to-date computer labs and utilize technology-assisted instruction, with one school being a Cox Communications model school for technology. All schools have computerized libraries. A distance learning site and professional development center are located at the District Services Complex. The district is connected with a fiber-optics network.

Programs…..

Many innovative and varied programs are used throughout the district to meet student needs and promote academic achievement. Academically gifted students in grades K-12 are provided challenging curriculum and activities. Strong fine arts and athletic programs in MWISD schools, along with solid core subjects, provide a well-balanced curriculum for all students. The state of the art high school that opened in the school year 2000-2001 has an extensive selection of technical and certification programs, varying from computer technology, career, agriculture, and culinary arts. The campus offers many advanced placement classes. A Multi Purpose Complex for extra-curricular activities with seating for 7,000 will be completed in the fall of 2007.

Networking with Universities…..

The school district reaches beyond its boundaries by working in conjunction with Tarleton State University and Weatherford College in various programs to bring excellence to MWISD.

The Effective Schools Project, with Tarleton State University, provides for teacher staff development and training.
